Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting

It's getting late. I haven't seen my date
So tell me when the boys get here
Seven o'clock and I wanna rock
Wanna get a belly full of beer
My old man's drunker than a bar full of winos
And his old lady, she don't care
My sister's looking looking cute in her braces and boots
And a handful of grease in her hair

Ohhhhhh! Don't give us none of your aggravation
We've had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fightin'
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this town alight
Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright, alright, alright, alright....Oh.......
P--p-p-p-packed in here tonight
I'm looking for a woman to treat right
I could use a little muscle to get what I need
I'll drink a fifth of jack and scream, "She's with me!"
A couple of the sounds that I really like
Are the sounds of a switchblade and a motorbike
And I'm a juvenile product of the working class
Whose best friend floats from the bottom of a glass

CHORUS: Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train
Gonna set this town alight
Saturday night's the night I like
Saturday night's alright, alright, alright....oh......

Oh. Don't give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting
Get a little action in

Get about as oiled as a diesel train.
Gonna set this town alight.
Saturday night's the night I like.
Saturday night's alright
Saturday, Saturday night.... UNTIL THE END OF THE SONG
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday night's alright

songwriters: Elton John and Bernie Taupin

performed by: Nickelback

date released: 1973 by Elton John. re-released by Nickelback in 2007

Hanna, Alberta, is the hometown of the grunge-rock band, Nickelback. The band members are Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and drummer Daniel Adair. The name, "Nickelback" originated in a Starbucks job Mike had. When he gave change to customers, he said, "Here's your nickel back." Well, Mike Kroeger has come a long way from working at Starbucks!

In December, 2009, Nickelback was named group of the decade by prestigious Billboard magazine. The magazine praised the band by saying, "The bulletproof Nickelback provides affordable fun
that promises good returns in hard time." In 2001, Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" soared to Number One on U.S. record charts.

Nickelback's cover of "Saturday Night" can be heard as the opening tease of Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts. Although Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to describe the raucous atmosphere in a local pub, the lyrics are certainly applicable to NHL hockey games where fights are common. The line, "get about as oiled as a diesel train" is British slang for a lively night on the town.

Now Nickelback is based in Vancouver, Canada.
