Learn all about the national holiday of Canada
Hello everyone!
I hope you're doing well.
I'm doing very well.
I'm still in St-Jean and I don't know when I'll go back to Canada
but that's okay
I'm enjoying being here in the mountains
and the weather has been very nice, so that's good.
While I'm here I want to talk to you about a holiday
that will happen in Canada this summer.
It's called Canada Day.
Canada Day is a day when people celebrate Canada's birthday.
It happens on July first every year.
This year Canada will turn 153 years old.
On July first 1867 Canada was created
by combining three separate British colonies.
This painting shows the politicians
who worked together to create Canada.
So how do people celebrate Canada Day in Canada?
People enjoy having barbecues and picnics,
watching fireworks,
and going to parades
...and concerts.
Canada Day parades and concerts
often celebrate the many different cultures
of immigrants and indigenous peoples in Canada.
People often wear clothing that is white and red
because they are the colours of Canada's flag.
Maybe this year you can wear some red and white
on July first to celebrate Canada Day.
This is the current Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau
giving a speech on Canada Day.
This is who we are.
This is what we believe in.
This is Canada!
Happy birthday Canada!
Thanks for listening.
Take care.
Bye.
