Hello, welcome to my English channel, Learn English with Camille. I'm Camille.
I'm Calvin. Today we are going to have a natural English conversation where a couple meets for the first time in a coffee shop. Watch this video first with the subtitles, and then watch it again with no subtitles.
By the way, I have an amazing book that I wrote for beginner learners. There are 30 short stories, over 400 exercises, and flashcards to study and learn English with. This is a great resource, and you can buy it on my website — learnenglishwithcamille.com — or on Amazon. There's also free audio.
Now let's get started with this conversation.
"Let's do it."
Emma: Is this seat taken?
Ryan: Oh no, go ahead.
Emma: Thanks. It's really busy in here today.
Ryan: Yeah, I guess everyone had the same idea — coffee break.
Emma: Exactly. Oh, by the way, I'm Emma.
Ryan: Nice to meet you, Emma. I'm Ryan.
Emma: Nice to meet you too. Do you come here often?
Ryan: Yeah, I come here a lot to work. It's my favorite spot.
Emma: Oh, do you work remotely?
Ryan: Yeah, I’m a freelance writer.
Emma: That’s cool. What kind of things do you write?
Ryan: Mostly travel blogs and tech articles.
Emma: Wow, that sounds interesting. Do you like it?
Ryan: Yeah, I love it. I get to write from anywhere. What about you?
Emma: I'm a university student. I'm studying psychology.
Ryan: Oh wow, that’s an interesting subject.
Emma: Yeah, I really enjoy learning about people and behavior.
Ryan: Do you want to be a psychologist?
Emma: Maybe, or something in counseling.
Ryan: So what do you like to do when you are not studying?
Emma: Hmm, I love hiking and photography.
Ryan: Oh nice! Do you take photos of nature?
Emma: Yeah, I love taking pictures of landscapes. What about you? What are your hobbies?
Ryan: I like playing football and watching movies.
Emma: Oh cool, what's your favorite movie?
Ryan: That's a hard question. Maybe Inception.
Emma: Oh I love that movie, it's so mind-blowing.
Ryan: Right, it's one of those movies you have to watch twice.
Emma: Since you write about travel, do you travel a lot?
Ryan: Yeah, I try to visit a new country every year.
Emma: That’s amazing. What’s your favorite place you’ve been to?
Ryan: Probably Thailand. The beaches are incredible.
Emma: I’d love to go there. I heard the food is amazing too.
Ryan: You definitely should. The food is amazing. Do you like to travel?
Emma: Yes! I haven’t traveled a lot yet, but I really want to.
Ryan: Where’s your dream destination?
Emma: Hmm, that’s a good question. My dream destination is Italy. I’d love to see Rome and Venice.
Ryan: That sounds awesome.
Emma: The food must be amazing in Italy.
Ryan: Yes, I could eat pasta and pizza every day.
Emma: Me too.
Ryan: Well, it's been really nice talking to you.
Emma: Yeah, I'm so glad we met.
Ryan: Same. Maybe we should meet up again sometime.
Emma: That would be great. Maybe we could grab coffee again next week.
Ryan: Sounds like a plan. My treat. I'll text you.
Emma: Great. I’ll see you soon.
Both: Bye!
