I'm Like a Bird

You're beautiful, that's for sure
You'll never ever fade
You're lovely, but it's not for sure
I won't ever change
And though my love is rare
Though my love is true

CHORUS: I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is

Baby all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is

Your faith brings me brings me to tears
Even after all these years
And it pains me so much to tell
That you don't know me that well
And though my love is rare
Though my love is true

CHORUS: I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is
And baby all I need for you to know is

I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is
And baby all I need for you to know is

It's not that I wanna say goodbye
It's just that every time you try
To tell me that you love me
Each and every single day I know
I'm gonna have to eventually give you away
And though my love is rare
And though my love is true
Hey, I'm just scared
That we may fall through

CHORUS: I am like a bird.
I don't know where my soul is.
I don't know where my home is
Baby all I need for you to know is

I'm like a bird, I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is
Baby all I need for you to know is

I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is
Baby all I need for you to know is
I'm like a bird
I'll only fly away
I don't know where my soul is
I don't know where my home is.....

Furtado was born on December 2, 1978, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Her Portuguese parents, Maria Manuela and António José Furtado, were both immigrants from the Azores and emigrated to Canada in the late 1960s.

Nelly was named after Soviet gymnast Nellie Kim. At age four, she began performing and singing in her native Portuguese language. Furtado's first public performance was when she sang a duet with her mother at a church on Portugal Day. She began playing musical instruments at the age of nine, learning the trombone, ukulele and – in later years – the guitar and keyboards. At 12, she began writing songs, and as a teenager, she spent eight summers working as a chambermaid with her mother, along with her brother and sister, who was a housekeeper in Victoria.

Nellie is proud of her working-class background. She has stated that coming from a working-class background has shaped her identity in a positive way.
